Trails that are physically or grade separated from streets.

[edit] Off-Street Trail Types

[edit] Disconnected

Disconnected off-street trails do not necessarily follow nearby roads. Examples are the Midtown Greenway, Hiawatha LRT Trail and other parkway trails.

[edit] Connected

Connected trails are technically off-street because they are grade-separated, but run adjacent to a road. Suburban developments often include connected trails but mark them 'off-street' on maps. Connected trails suffer from many similar problems as sidewalks - insufficient attention from drivers, curb-cuts, and driveway intersections are just a few. Examples of connected trails include Minnetonka Boulevard in Minnetonka and Plymouth Ave / Luce Line Trail in Golden Valley.
