First test fit of gear on the new Salsa for the race next week.

Though it doesn’t feel all that new any more, I picked it up in November and already have over 500 miles on it.

    Who else is signed up?

I’d love to do this as well.

Seems like a fun (for some values of “fun”) race. And by “race”, I mean I’d probably finish last.

But not this year though, don’t have a bike for it. Nor the training.

I volunteered as search and rescue for this race a few years back and have more or less decided I was not that caliber of an athlete. I have the utmost respect for those that do this. Have a great race and I really hope it goes well for you.

Thanks for the encouragement. Though I’m not sure I’m that caliber of an athlete either. Or an athlete at all. But we’ll see how it goes :-)

Well, I survived. It was a great event (in a brutal sort of way). 35:51 was my time – not last, but pretty close. Hit -30F overnight. Brrrr! :-) I’ll write up a longer post later.

Dorian Hawkmoon and I are going to team up on this race in the future. With temps that low at night, we need to cuddle for warmth.

    Congrats on finishing!

I think there is a story on this in the Strib premium edition. (means not online until probably next week)

Here’s an article in today’s Pioneer Press written by Richard Chin and entitled, “Numb and Number”.

Chin rode a Salsa Mukluk and finished in 34 hours, 32 minutes. His buddy rode a Surly Pugsley.

    P.S., Congratulations, Skyrover.

Nice job! I can’t believe you kept on biking through minus 35 degrees! I like how you are modding your bike and preparing in the room before the race. Just my style. I plan to attempt the Arrowhead135 next year. That is, assuming I survive Tuscobia 2011 (with a rumored 220 mile course)
