Right now I have "Fresh Air: Terry Gross interviews Stars of the Stage & Screen" in the computer. Dave Chappel's on and Colbert is next. Damn good interviews.

Fugazi: Red Medicine
Whenever I listen to Fugazi I can't help thinking that pretty much every other band is just masturbatory bullshit.

Funny, I can't stand Fugazi any more after enjoying their jams for many years.
I've been listening to a lot of Roger Miller recently.
I partially take that back, I still like Fugazi's instrumental album a lot.

More than anything, the fact that they're one of the few good bands who've never sold out and gone shitty on some big label or played some fucking Hot Topic or Vans tour makes them awesome. Musically, there's a lot of stuff that I like more, but most of the other bands I listen to haven't stuck as true to their values as Fugazi have. That's why I love them.

I used to think along those lines, but I realized I don't hold anything else to those standards, why should I for music? I mean, do you only read newspapers that only take adverstising from companies you like, or books published by companies whose financial practices you agree with?I was missing out on a lot of great stuff. Nowadays I try to judge bands by their music and not where they get their paycheck from.
Plenty of bands have managed to thrive creatively on majors...the Clash and the Ramones were on majors, for chrissakes!

I'm not saying I don't listen to major label music. If it's good, I'll listen to it. I'll probably burn it, though. I think that it matters more with music because most of the music I've always listened to is radical in nature, so it bothers me when I hear lyrics against Capitalism or what not, but by going to their show a ton of my money is actually going to big capitalists! And more than anything, it's just an all too frequent sad story of a band putting out a couple of killer albums, getting popular because they're good, then signing to a major label and making shitty music thereafter because suddenly it's not their musical integrity that matters most, they're playing for the profit of some company. But this is a big can o' worms that is maybe best left unopened.

All I gotta say about that is Built To Spill got a lot of major label interest after There's Nothing Wrong With Love, which had a lot of short poppy songs, so they signed to Warner Bros and promptly put out an album of long meandering jams and totally fucked up WB's marketing campaign.
But yeah, I don't want to get into dead horse territory here.

hellz yeah, strictly butter has always got the hot selections. i really dig norton fortune, and he's got a pretty wide selection of dubstep and grime. and speaking of dubstep, i've been rocking this vex'd mix you can find here:
http://www.buzzlife.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86326
there are a ton of other good mixes there too, most with tracklistings as well.
