My Dahon folding bike was stolen from children's hospital Minneapolis on the eve of this posting. July 29th. It was stolen with a trek 7000 women's SS 29er that I modified from scratch. Both bikes are highly unique. The Dahon, I imported from Asia because the bike was not available from the US Market at the time. It is green in color with gold and red graphics. It is disc break equipped as well with a seat post that turns into a bike pump. All in all the parts group is high in spec for a folding bike, avid mechanicals on the discs. This bike will catch the eye. The 7000 step through frame is about a 2008 with John engraved in the head tube. It is sporting a cheap but bulletproof cyclone crank, and schwalbee big apple tires with swept back Amsterdam style bars with an extended late 90s trek SS stem. Two bells on the bars, one from the 1930s with a Jewish star of David on it. The frame I modified to fit big apples in the rear. Blue and silver color scheme, single speed drive train. Again hard to miss. Please please please, if you see these bikes let me know. I will be checking in regularly. Reward offered for the DAHON. pictures in forum post below. Green in color Gold http://www.thaimtb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=355283Trek looks like first pic in below forum but ridged fork and navy in color. http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php/276875-New-Rider-Trek-7100-WSD-Low-StepReally nice alone having your child in children's then getting your bikes stolen while you wait for her to come home. Pricks. Also they were heavily locked.

Extra info:
Nothing was left behind, all bikes in front of children's were gone. While more than a few were there when I got back at 5:15 pm. Bike stolen between 5 and 9 pm.
Doesn't seem like hooligans. But then again I did see a young kid on a trek SS with a switchblade fork riding it slammed and without knowledge of what he was riding thinking to my self that it was quite odd. But hey.
The Children's is at 26th and chicago, south of Franklin.
My two favorite bikes, I feel like an idiot.

Could you see if there were any security cameras around the area of the bike racks? Did you talk to hospital security?

I did check with security, and they do not have cameras placed directly but on the periphery. Hard to see the bikes after dark they said. So it most likely happened after 8. Not much luck yet.

I'm sure you had fun asking the "security" guy about the entire bike rack being cleaned out, locks cut, in front of the building, in daylight. I'm thinking the way it works now is 2 guys pull up in a van with a big Acme Bike Thieves logo on both sides - turn on their flashers and park in a loading zone - go into the lobby and plug in a 100 foot extension cord, and get to work with an angle grinder.

This pisses me off. My kid's spent too much time at Chidrens and having to deal with a stolen bike at the same time as a sick kid would be tough. And anyone who steals from a Childrens Hospital, or any hospital in general, deserves to go straight to hell.
I know you talked to security, but a conversation with hospital administration is in order here. Cleaning out a full bike rack on hospital property is high profile enough that they'll actually care.
For what it's worth, my kid's spent about two cumulative months at Childrens, which means that I've spent about two cumulative months there, and I can tell you the security guards there aren't your typical rent-a-cops. They actually give a shit.

If they were smart they'd just get a converter and plug it straight into their cig lighter

They actually give a shit. I'm not seriously blaming them. I have a relative who works in a hospital, and security there is absolutely minimal, you'd be lucky if there are 2 guys for the whole facility. I'd like to think that a children's hospital would have more than that, and that things would be a little tighter overall. But they can't cover the parking lot; the answer has to be cameras, and someone watching them. In other words, money.

I know you're not blaming them. I'm just saying they seem to be good people and take their jobs seriously. Hell, once when I was leaving I realized I had left my rear blinky on my bike and it got swiped. When I asked security if someone happened to turn it in to lost & found the guy wanted to review the tapes. I declined as we'd have to look at eight hours of footage for a $30 light, but the next evening when I was leaving the guy saw me and showed me the footage of some random kid stealing my light. It was futile, but I was impressed.
Most of the internal security is done by hospital staff. The external security is via cameras all over the place and I find it hard to believe they can't see the bike racks after dark. I still think it'd be worth getting a hold of hospital administration because these thieving fuckers are getting brazen and this might be the type of high profile thing that would get the MPD more involved (assuming they're already involved).

Seems like an obvious and easy setup for a 'sting' if MPD were so inclined.

Just in terms of who is at fault if anyone, it would be me for thinking i could lock a bike safely in south Minneapolis without some absolute ball-less shitheads thinking it would make another fine addition to their stolen bike stable. So, fuck me first. Can I swear on here? Hope so. Anyhow I spoke with hospital security the day after. There is a camera on the bike racks and the camera did pick up the incident. Whatever good that is seeing a couple dark figures steal my bike. Might be speaking with Admins on a donating for added security, would be well worth it. Picture of her: Below is the CHN Domestic painted on decal. Due to this bike being imported from Shenzhen area, this is most likely the only Dahon you will see in this area with this decal. I am offering a handsome reward for the bike returned. Please if you see it Phone Me or Text - 50.Seven.30.One.800.Seven. Thanks.

You might want to check this ad out. http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/b ... 98822.htmlNo pic, but it was posted soon after your bike went missing.
