Duh, my bad, phaedrus you are right, there is a difference. The nexus has a roller brake (mounted on the outside of the hub), the Sturmey and the Shimano cassette hub I have are drum (and are completely internal)

Its true, wear is probably a negligible concern. They say drum pads last 5 yrs or more.

Anyway, you can have your drum brakes, Ill stick with disks :mrgreen:

Friction is definitely a concern there. While some friction is certainly necessary, too much is detrimental.

It's only a matter of time before road-biking freds start installing "interrupter" shifters at the end of their clip-on Profile aerobars.
