Here's the case study, guys.I thought I remember reading over a year ago that Minneapolis pioneered the left-hand bike lane mainly as a measure against driver's-side dooring. Looks like there's other reasons though.

Rode Bryant twice in the last couple of days and had pushy drivers right on my @ss the whole time, just like the old days. I think the problem is that the green paint is now pretty much gone and with it went our claim to the lane. I realize this was an experiment, and I'd say the results are in: sharrows plus a wide green stripe significantly change the game; sharrows alone do not.

It's been pointed out in the past that going over them when they are glowing gives you a temporary speed boost.

Actually, most of the times I've seen these things happen, it started out as part of a bigger, good plan, and then the various committee processes involved either broke it up into segments, some of which never happened, or got rid of some part of the project that left us with something depressingly awful. I do think cycling on Bryant has increased and consequently has reduced some auto traffic on Bryant. To the novice I think sharrows do offer some extra confidence to not ride right against the curb. I find them a bigger reminder to cyclists that cyclists can be in the road.
I do understand the argument that it may give drivers the impression that cyclists shouldn't be on other roads ie. Lyndale, but I do believe that it is in fact, the safer route with the exception of the stupid ass waste of money "historic" bridge over the creek that they couldn't widen to allow for bike traffic because of its so-called historic value and has a stop sign at the bottom of significant hill of potholes. Lyndale bridge you can't get finished quick enough.

suspeckted wrote: I do understand the argument that it may give drivers the impression that cyclists shouldn't be on other roads ie. Lyndale... This sort of driver will think this regardless of what we paint on the road. It's not like the presence of controlled-access freeways gave anybody the impression that they were the only place were cars could drive. These drivers are simply ignorant and incompetent.
