As tempting as it is to take the studs off, I hesitate because the streets have so much debris and glass on them right now. My studded tires are more impervious to flats.
On the other hand going 30 mph on studded tires today was pretty scary.

So now I have one with Nokian 106 (A10s for me)studded tires and one with older Schwalbe Marathons. So swapping them out is no big deal as I don't have to re-adjust anything. Bill. +1 I also have two sets of wheels. Front and rear, so any combo for the weather. BAM!

I totally forgot to put studs on my bike at all and never finished rebuilding the close to fat bike. Luckily, we're due for snow tonight.

I've been grinding it out on studs all Winter...on a heavy-ass Bakfiets with my 40+ pound kid in it. It's really rough going with the studs and I've thought about taking them off. However, I find that the studs are needed most late in Winter when the melting snow piles flow into the streets during the day and then freeze over night. Being that there's no snow to melt it seems pointless. Yet, I know that if I take them off we'll get hit with 12 inches.

I've had them off for a couple months. I just put them back on Saturday, but only so I could ride the River Bottoms. They're coming off again tonight.

Nice going, all of you. You have invoked the snow gods. bet you wish you had those studs now. Or ... you could just wait a couple hours. The temp is already above freezing and it will all be melted by noon.

The temp is already above freezing and it will all be melted by noon. I just bought a new bike, and in the first week of commuting on it I saw one icy day that put me on the ground twice in about 100 feet. The first time was right after I passed a guy, so I got to feel like an idiot when he asked if I was okay and then passed me while I reoriented my shifters. I peeped the temp at 35F this morning but still said "fuck it" and swapped my studded front wheel on. I'll take a loss in rolling resistance (A10 32s here too, so not too bad) over crashing 10 times out of ten.

Getting those studs on and off the rims is just too much work so I'm leaving them off. I need another set of wheels. It's all melting anyway.

I've had em off for the past month, now I'm wondering if I should slap them back on.
