That's not the point.... the point is, you can get hit by the car you blinded with your light too - if the light is bright and in their eyes, you are creating risk for yourself and possible other too. Think about this... You're traveling southbound with bright strobing front light, I'm biking northbound with my red rear blinky. Car driving northbound has trouble seeing me because of the bright strobing light in their eye and hits me. This is the situation that was described by my co-worker - no she did not hit a bike, but she was very upset when she realized she could not see the bike on her side of the road because of the bright strobing light on the on-coming bike. There is a middle ground where you are making yourself SEEN, but not BLINDING other traffic. (edit - spelling error) Which is more likely? Getting hit by a car who didn't see your non-blinking light, or getting hit by a car who was blinded by your blinking light?

I use a blinking light that I aim 20-25 ft in front of my bike so as to avoid blinding others.

I don't think "I didn't see it" has as much to do with vision as it does with social standing. It's probably an excuse to running over black people in certain circles.

On a side note, make sure it doesn't blink TOO fast. Fast strobe lights really mess with your depth perception, which is one reason police flashlights have that option.

I wasn't even thinking cars, in regards to whom a person might be blinding with their bright flasher since I'm either riding with traffic or perpendicular to it on a trail. The person that is affected is the directly oncoming cyclist on the trail. It's not a question of you being too bright for some random car, it's you shining your brighter than an arc welder light, blinding the bike coming at you. I'm happy that on your side of the light, as it spreads into the expanse of darkness, that it doesn't seem all that big a deal, we're on the other side getting it full bore, washing out anything in front of us, not lighting our way. I do appreciate those that adjust it down a bit.

These are great little lights for what they are: environmentally friendly, super light, bright, and the low-battery indicator is awesome. I mean, I've only had ithem for about a year, so maybe they break too soon, but they seem more solid than the planet bike unit I have. I just got the a Flea front light to mount on my Bell Muni helmet (helmet has built-in mounting). Really like it as a second light! (Still use a handle bar mounted light)

Probably don't need to be strobing on the greenway, period.

yeah. im all about good lighting. i like to see and be seen. but some lights are overkill, especially on the greenway. why point them up in my grill when you dont even need to be using it?
its one thing on the road. with all the cars, noise, lights and exhaust smell. but lets try to keep my nice, quiet peacful ride on the greenway that way. relaxin.

Aim and use is the key as already stated. You can have one billion lumens and if properly aimed it wont blind people.
as simple as it is to reach over, and click between blink and steady, its pretty easy to put it on while on the greenway and then bump it to flash when I get on the east side of sabo when I come up to all the crossings.
