I am planning of making a day of it at this event. If you are interested in trying you hand at racing, this would be a good opportunity. In fact, there's a cornering clinic first thing in the morning to help inexperienced riders get ready.

If you are not racing, the spectating should be excellent. The course will be exciting (lots of corners and hills) and there is plenty of food and drink at the race start/end point. Hopefully we'll have a strong contingent of spectators supporting local racing.

I've also heard the first 100 spectators get a free cowbell.

I'm so there.

edit: from their facebook page...

"Southside Sprint
I gotta have more cowbell! Thanks to Optum Health, the first 200 fans at the Southside Sprint will receive a cowbell to inspire the racers!"

Quick reminder that the Southside Sprint is Sunday, July 24.

This will be a unique urban cycling event. BMX stunt riders will perform throughout the day and Los Padrinos low-rider club will be showcasing their one-of-a-kind bicis - including a pedal car!

And don't forget, we have a Citizens/Cat 5 race and cornering clinic so if you've never raced but wanted to try, now's your chance.

Hope to see you all down at 48th & Chicago on Sunday.

A quite excellent course indeed! I do wish there are more urban criteriums like this. That would be very good for the sport. Sitting in Town Hall tap and watching them fly by was so great! Dont miss out next year :P

Thank you to everyone that came out to race, watch and support the inaugural Southside Sprint. The neighbors and local businesses were thrilled with the day.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our volunteers. They are the ones that deserve the credit for everything running so smoothly.

Check out our facebook page for lots of great pics - and some vids to come.

I'm glad I was able to make it and watch some of the races. Good time! It was fun when the crowd started paying for sprints.
