Ill start: This is no concept bike... this is what happens when you scrape the detritus off a seasoned bike mechanics feet... just click the box with the x in it if you cant see it.

We could make a whole thread of inappropriate use of Spinergys IMG_5442[1] by all-city, on Flickr

I seriously don't know how those spokes are considered strong enough. Eight pieces of flexible carbon fiber?

I think the theory is that the hub is supported by hanging from the spokes above it rather than being held up by the spokes below it.
When looked at that way, it seems reasonable to think that one could make four carbon fiber straps capable of hanging a few hundred pounds of weight between them.
Unfortunately, all that space gives too much room for a squirrel or bird to get in there.

No, this thread works. This is being done wrong, and it's not even on its clown bike yet

phaedrus wrote: I think the theory is that the hub is supported by hanging from the spokes above it rather than being held up by the spokes below it. In general, spokes working under compression (like a wagon wheel) where the hub is held up by the spokes below is not a good idea for bike wheels. See Takumar's avatar: a Mavic representative trying to manually demonstrate how strong the carbon spokes in their R-Sys wheels are after repeated reports of inexplicable catastrophic wheel explosions. phaedrus wrote: When looked at that way, it seems reasonable to think that one could make four carbon fiber straps capable of hanging a few hundred pounds of weight between them. Except that that weight is not just hanging from the rim - there are lateral forces as well. Opinions on Spinergy from Mr. "The Bicycle Wheel" himself:Jobst Brandt wrote: I suspect that most of the Spinergy failures we hear of are such compression failures in which the pair of spokes between hub and ground go slack. It takes only a light side load to collapse a wheel when that happens. Spinergys are no different from wire spoked wheels in that respect. They stand on the bottom spokes and when these go slack, there are NO spokes between the road contact patch and the hub to hold the wheel laterally. If one pair of "spokes" goes slack there is nearly 180° of rim without tension on it.
