I am considering replacing my trusty long haul trucker with one of these. I am considering giving the hole randoneuring thing a try and a lighter bike would be kind of a nice change. I didn't consider it prior to now as I like wider tires and the older version did not have cantilever brakes. Now it does. Does anyone own one? What do you think? Any shop have these in stock? 52-54 cm? Any other bikes that I should add to the list? Thanks!!!

I just built a 60cm and I believe we have a 58. Should be getting some more soon. They are quite sexy! How much would you want for your LHT?

Thanks for the offer of a test ride, what size is yours? I have not been able to find a shop in the cities yet that has one in my size. Looks like a great bike. It will be awhile before the LHT is for sale, need to make sure the Casseroll is an acceptable replacement. Was even thinking of just picking up a caseroll frame and putting all of my LHT parts on it rather then buying the complete as I would want bar end shifters anyway.

although my shop carries these, consider: VO RandoPacerMilwaukee Road (It's a waterford+ canti option!! Made in the US what!?) Salsa used to use some nice tubing, but now it's just butted 4130 like everything else from Taiwan.

Yeah I want cantilever brakes, that is sort of a requirement. The Milwaukee bike sounded interesting until I saw that canti studs adds $100 and rack and fender braze ons adds another $50. The Velo Orange thing sound kind of neat but I don't even want to get started ordering bikes over the internet.

Seriously come try my 53. I've changed it up already. Yeah the trucker parts apart from the front cantilever brakes would be a direct transplant onto the Casseroll. You'll need to get a pair of Tektro 720 cantis so the straddle cable clears the front rack.

I've really been thinking about ordering a frame and building one over the winter. I love the color scheme on this one.

Right now I have a compact 50/34 with the same rear cassette.

I did get the chance to ride one over the weekend at Behind Bars. I thought it was a very nice bike. The only thing I didn't like was the lack of braze ons on the fork for a front rack. I know it comes with the small front rack already installed but I would still like to easily throw a big front rack on it for touring.

Frankly I don't think there's much on the market that'll replace a LHT. But consider this though. Gear is getting lighter and more compact. I have a sleeping pad that's the size of a beer can. You can get a 2 person tent that weighs under 4lbs, and a credit card is even lighter.

Yeah I know, I love my LHT, I don't worry very much at all about weight when touring, but I do get concerned about it on group rides when I have a hard time keeping up. I know most of it is my fitness level (hey round is a shape right?) but having a lighter bike certainly can't hurt and right now since my wife bought a new lens for her camera she approves of a new bike purchase.
