Snak Shak,
I have 4 people who were planning to join me on the ride, but I doubt any of them would ride in the temps forecast for Saturday

Halgorithm,
Quote:
*the 3-speed bike I have that I thought was good has a bad hub, which would explain the broken shifter.
If the hub is completely shot I have rebuilt sets of AW guts sitting in a drawer. PM me if interested.

scale,
Quote:
I was able to tighten up my cotters a bit and they should last the first ride at least.
Might be best if you swing by my place and I'll mash them in for you with a press. PM me if interested. I'm at 5349 Elliot.

Okay. Don't panic.

We are going to have a short "winterlude" tonight and tomorrow but the show will go on. After all, what's the point of riding around on a dorky old 3-speed if you are not going to be a total bad-ass about it.

I will be at Longfellow Grill at 11:00 come hell or high water and will ride with anyone that is foolish enough to show up. If the weather is truly inclement, we'll reschedule this for the weekend after next - I have an Easter obligation that I cannot shrug off so next week is out of the question for me. Of course, others could ride next week. PM me if you want a cell phone number for any late breaking news on this ride or other toothsome gossip.

That is all.

Edited to corrected typo's and sins omission. Bold indicates corrections.

Snak Shak,
My knee is worse this morning so I'm not even going to try today.

The forecast for next weekend looks fantastic. (Not that long range forecasts are any more trustworthy than politicians.) Be a shame to waste it.

How about I put together a different ride for the 23rd and you lead your Grand Rounds on the 30th?

That sounds like a great plan, Mark. Go for it!

Well, gna and I managed a brisk 18.5 miles this morning (the short ride). The wind was pretty relentless at points, but it gave a nice push down the greenway back to the start. We stopped only briefly at Angry Catfish on this ride. Thanks for braving the weather, gna!

Another one will be happening, hopefully.

Rest assured there will be more of these, Lindenblossom. Bikesmith might lead some, gna might, and I will lead a few others as well. I have an Easter commitment or I'd be doing the Grand Rounds right this weekend, but Bikesmith might lead a shorter ride next weekend. I'll probably end up doing the Grand Rounds the week after next with however is up for that.

Too bad our first ride was challenged by weather, but gna and I had a good time and a great lunch afterwards. There will be more 3-speed rides...

+1

Thanks to Snak Shak for organizing these rides. The weather wasn't that bad.

Will be nice to see Lindenblossom and Pizza Girl again.

Four Bridges Picnic Ride Saturday Apr. 23rd.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Meet us at the Princess Station at 11:00 AM for a very casual 16 - 18 mile ride. Most of the ride will be on bike paths, including the repaved Shepard Rd. bike path and the Great Rivers Trail. The few streets and roads carry only light traffic. Plenty of places to stop and visit or admire the still impressive amount of water in the river valleys.

Pack a simple lunch and beverage as we will be stopping to eat at the W.P.A. scenic overlook near where Sibley Memorial Highway meets Hwy 13.  (While not a great birding spot, it may be worthwhile to bring binoculars.)

BTW The Grand Rounds Ride scheduled for April 16th has been rescheduled for Saturday April 30th

TC3-SAS is about the ride, the company of like minded souls and the scenery, not so much about the bikes. These rides are to be done at the leisurely pace of a proper English 3 Speed. So hub geared roadsters are encouraged, but any bike appropriate for a "stop and smell the roses" pace is welcome.

Not a lot of roses to stop and smell this early in the season, but I do plan to stop at a few points of architectural/historical interest.

Re: Where is the "princess station" for the start of Saturday ride?

Oops! Having lived in S. Mpls. for the past 43 years, it didn't occur to me that not everyone would know the location. A couple of emails reminded me.

The Minnehaha Princess Station is an ornate Victorian train depot built in the 1870s It is in Minnehaha Falls Park. about 2 blocks SSE of the roundabout at the intersection of Minnehaha Ave, and East Minnehaha Parkway.

http://goo.gl/maps/9khf Click on the "X" in the upper right corner to exit Street View and get into map mode.

I hope you can make it.

The family's bikes have been set up and the 3 of us are planning to join this ride providing the weather is agreeable. The wife and daughter are opposed to biking in the rain.
