With winter coming on, I think we should start a book club. I suggest naming a book to read, like say... this one. Then we'll pick a date about a month from now and meet at some confortable location to discuss the book. The book I am recommending is called "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin DeBecker. It's a very interesting read and useful for anyone interested in personal security, workplace violence, crime, domestic violence and prevention. It's WTF-friendly as well. Any interest in this?

Maybe, but I doubt I can find time to read with all the video games I *have* to play.

Neither will Caesar! Or Mr. House, or President Kimball depending upon which faction one chooses to ally oneself with...

I just requested this book from the library! (I left 9 reservable copies for you all.)
This book is 350 pages. I either need a considerable amount of time before we meet or book notes, but I'm down to read/meet/discuss.

Yeah, snax are good. My attention span is already roughly equivalent to that of a gnat, so snax serve as a nice distraction. Um, wait, is that counter-productive?

My stack of to-read books is already a good three feet high. Not sure I should be adding to it anytime in the near future.

Definitely interested (and there are now only 8 copies available from the library).
What, when, where are we thinking? Wednesday nights do not work for me.

What, when, where are we thinking? Wednesday nights do not work for me. I am more of a Quaker than a fascist, so I think we should talk about that. I would prefer either South Minneapolis or downtown. One location I am considering is the new (as in so new it's not yet open) Town Hall Brewery at 48th and Chicago. That's handy as hell for me but might be a little far south for others. The beer and food will probably be pretty good and it's new turf, so we can become "The Book Club" at that locale, potentially. Wednesday evening is bad for me, too. I think we should shy away from Friday or weekends, too. I could get behind a Monday or Tuesday. As for when, like Lowrah said, the book is about 375 pages long or so, so maybe the first or second week of November makes sense. If this gels the way I am hoping we can set a date (second Monday or whatever) but for now let's find a date that works for most and then let the group plan from there.

Oh - I like those suggestions. Town Hall Brewery and Monday or Tuesday nite would be my vote - but I h ope you are talking the 1st or 2nd week in December as it is already November.
I can also meet downtown or uptown too.

Downtown might be nice as it is a bit more "central" than south unless, of course, everyone in said club is from south...
Yep, I can read a 375 page book I don't even have yet inside a week. Not that I want to.
Crap, I can't find the Calvin and Hobbes image I wanted to place here.

Tuesdays are better than Mondays, but I could make a Monday work every month or so...
48th and Chicago works for me.

Shall we say Tuesday, December 14 to start? That gives us a few good weeks to read through this. Let's plan on Town Hall Tap. If for some reason they are not open yet we can use the Pepito's bar as a fall-back. What do we think for a time? 7:00?
