I vote that all concept bikes be banished to a single, deserted-island of a thread, and only "cool" and "innovative" production bikes get the privileged of an entire thread devoted to them.

There are some old favorites:

And everyone's favorite nut-crusher due to a one-off actually existing.

Now look at this other shit

Dear design school kids, please find another mature technology to "improve."

Oh there's plenty of concept bikes that "capitalize" on the already-odd bikes. Post what you find, that's what this thread is for.
Here's a stupid one:

Ughh, so stupid. I can just see the fred-tastic rider cruising along with his SPD sandles, cigarettes, and laid-back demeanor.

hrm. :???:

We all know there's a difference between conceptual designs, and actual production-bikes. What I don't understand is the hate directed toward concept bikes. New and more effective designs (including blue-sky conceptual designs) are critical to the future of the bicycle. Think about it until you agree with me:

Gary Klein started working with oversized aluminum tubing at MIT in the early 70's. While his early concepts never made production, the pre-work laid the foundation for the Aluminum frame revolution of the 80's and 90's. Today, it is not unusual to see bicycle brands rolling out frames made of a Scandium/Aluminum alloy, which would have never have been possible without some ugly (but particularly important) early-stage conceptual bike frames.

Good thinking to put a disk brake on that nut-cracker direct-drive unit. :???:

Is the BMW bike supposed to be capable of steering?

Yeah, improvements in technology have to start somewhere, but exactly what problems are these concepts "solving" except that perhaps the bicycle offends somebody's design sensibility as-is. Klein actually solved a problem in the construction of Al bicycles, something that there was a legitimate demand for. He didn't say, hey, I don't like hubs, lets draw a bike without them and say, well, the technology to make this doesn't exist yet.
Oh, and

I bet those brake hoods will take a good hundredth of a second off a forty kilometer ride.
