Campus biking is hell: beware the mountain bikers, u-locks a-jingling from the handlebars. Winter is over, pleasant street is pleasant no more. But on the bright side, they could all be driving cars...

I always know that spring is here or fall session has started because of all the mountain bikes with squeaky chains while the biker is peddling like mad because they don't down shift and they are going slow with their headphones on weaving within the lane.

But, yes, better than cars.

Church Street between Physics and MechE is some kind of vortex of idiocy among the oblivious pedestrians with headphones crossing willy-nilly, cars turning around by the loading dock, scooters without a concern for anyone else (and using up half the bike rack), etc.

There's absolutely no excuse for this. It's not even convenient to take the scooter up onto the pedestrian level, and the speed limit is 30 mph on the vehicle level! Jeez.

I saw a swurvy bike on the bottom deck of the bridge going about 10mph. When they crossed, they proceeded to carry their bike up the stairs by Wiley Hall, exactly to where the top deck ends. Why?

Maybe they didn't know the ped level of the bridge was open again.

isnt it 45 on the lower deck? I believe the 30 mph speed limit doesnt kick in until you get onto the east bank.

It wouldnt be fun riding a scooter on the lower deck either (bike or scooter, still dangerous), but it belongs more down there than it does on the upper deck.

They changed it a while back. Going from the West Bank to the East Bank, the speed limit turns to 30 mph before the on-ramp from in front of the Hub, before where the buses pick up on the lower deck. Going from the East Bank to the West Bank, it doesn't turn into a highway (i.e. over 30 mph) until after the off-ramp.

So, no, I don't think it's dangerous to scoot on the lower deck. Except that there are at least as many bad student drivers out there as there are student bikers.

One of my guilty pleasures when I lived in dinkytown was to pass them as close as possible as fast as possible when they were jaywalking, often going in between groups of them.

I do this too. Guiltily. Not just at the U.
I really hope that sometimes it actually wakes them up.
Probably not though. I should stop before I clip someone.

Is that what they were, I really considered running one over on the way home the other night, but figured the little shit wasn't worth taco-ing the wheel over.
It's that stare you in the eye and walk real slowly that bugs the fuck outta me.
Ramming speed.
