We need tighter controls on motoring. Motorvehicles are a threat to public safety on orders of magnitude greater than anything else. It ought to be statistically impossible for at least 50% of the population to obtain a license in the first place, much less to be allowed to continue threatening the health and safety of the general public after repeated offenses. I'm not saying this particular driver is a repeat offender, just that there are too many extant drivers who are.

Agreed. A kid gets a license at age 16, and in most cases will never have to take a written or behind-the-wheel test again. I'm not sure most current motorists could pass the written test without studying up.

One of my exes has a grandmother who is legally blind yet still drives - she renews her license by mail!

Thanks for sharing your stories about your uncle with us, slow_d. Glad to hear the family appreciated the sentiment behind the ghost bike.

Wow, that bike is an amazing memorial. This may be a little strange to ask, but who put what must've been a lot of time into the bike?

My thanks go out to whoever did it.

Wow.

The vehicle that struck and killed a St. Louis Park man as he rode his bike to work earlier this month was a tannish gold/light brown Jeep Grand Cherokee that was built in 1996, 1997 or 1998, Minneapolis police said at a news conference today.

Here's an example of a tannish 1996 Jeep Grad Cherokee (aka Laredo):

Outstanding. I was frustrated that Zito's assailant was not found. I'm hopeful that this one will not get away.

Yesterday I visited the ghost bike and met a fellow taking care of the shrine who said he was Jimmy's best friend. He was -- obviously -- sad, but not angry. He said he could understand how an accident could happen but he could not understand why the driver didn't stop, didn't get help.

I don't understand it either.

i'm living about two blocks away from where he was killed, everyday i bike by his ghost bike.
i saw him walking/biking from time to time as i was growing up. it just makes me sad to think how he went, and that the guy hit and ran.

I'm assuming that means they're not sure which kind of vehicle hit him, as opposed to two vehicles hit him....

Bump.

Please continue to keep your eyes out. I'm told there have been very, very few tips at all.

Late 90s Jeep Grand Cherokee or Dodge Ram truck, tan in color with front-end damage.

It shouldn't be this hard. I'm keeping hope alive on this one.

Guess it's too much to ask for one of us to go sit at the accident site at 4:20am to see if this is "tan vehicle's" commute to work.
