I don't think I want to ride all the way out to Steiger...Christmas maybe. I also wonder if there are any fish in Lone Lake or Shady Oak off of Shady Oak rd. in Hopkins.

Well they are biting. 5 minutes on the lake and a big northern hits hard. Even took a jump. Fought him for a minute while trying to grab my net and un-fold it, then he took off again. By the time I got him back to the boat, I thought for sure he'd be tired out. I got half of him in the net (note: get bigger collapsible net or gaff), and when I tried lifting him in the boat, he did a somersault, spitting the hook out and diving back into the cold water. Sucker was certainly over 35" and looked like about 8 pounds.
Did manage to get another one for the pan, but it didn't beat Aaron's so I won't post the pic. 26" is still the one to beat.

We have a new leader. The bigger northern in the foreground is 29", beating Aaron's by 3". The smaller one is 25". Friday fish fry: Still a few weeks of open water fishing left.

Fish murder is no game, friend. Not a game, but another way to put food on the table. The way to put really fresh fish on the table. 28" northern tonight, right after the sun went down. Not a contender, so no pic, other than a bowl full of fillets, which I will hopefully be adding to tomorrow: But if anyone wants to make a play to beat 29", tomorrow will be an excellent opportunity with the cold front coming in. If I weren't such a meat fisherman, I'd go down to Cedar or Nokomis and cast for muskies at sunset tomorrow afernoon. I haven't caught one on any of the city lakes that was under 34"

I'm going to try to increase the margin of victory (:-)) at about 2:30 this afternoon. If anyone with a fishing license wants to join me, send me a PM. All you need to bring is your bike (with lights), a fishing license, and a rain coat from the looks of it. I have rods and tackle appropriate to the task.

hehe, true true, I'll have to work something up, it can be a traveling trophy, so you can pass it on to whoever wins next year. I sense a trip to axman in the works. good job!
I was out ice fishing yesterday, and I'm a bit sore from hauling the shack and all of the equipment out across the lake. It was my wife's first ice fishing outing ever. we only caught panfish but she was still excited. I'm heading out to minnetonka this weekend hopefully catch some crappies and walleyes.
