If they just resurfaced, I think it would be a bad idea to go cover the court with bike tracks - it could hurt our cause a lot. :(

Thoughts...?

Grrr, we just need to convince the Park Board
that it doesn't really hurt the tennis courts.

If you Google bicycle+polo+tennis+court,
there's a bunch of other cities' teams using courts.

But no mention of sanctioning by the local muni
and no mention of the effect on the courts.

Probably the only ones to care will be tennis
snobs. The courts are probably just coated with
the same tacky material the bike trail is coated
with, so you don't slip around on rubber -- and
both the soles of shoes and the tires of wheels
are rubber/petroleum-derived, so I bet the effect
is nil.

It'd be nice to be able to present the park board
with an analysis of all this shit, 'cause then they'll
have to be more creative in turning us down.

Either way, it'll take a while to get MPRB approval.

For now, I think it's crucial we meet at the same
spot every week, but also have a known secondary
spot.

Ideally, if we could find a level, well-paved parking
lot on private/business property and get permission
to use it... then even the sparks is legit!

Who wants to try Holmes Park this week?

The area under the bridge on Nicolette Island is quite flat if I recall correctly. Could try that too.

Are you nuts?

You mean in the road, or that spot that drops off into the river?

Corocoran Park has a shithole tennis court that hasn't been resurfaced in years. I'll check it out and see if a ball could even roll for 10 feet without dropping into a pothole and get back to you.

The spot between the bridge foundations and the dropoff. You know, where everyone was standing around before the pentagram.

Maybe not as flat as a tennis court but pretty dece....i think. Maybe.

Holy shit. I leave to go to Chicago for one weekend and this is what happens. I'm marking all the liquor bottles before I leave town in the future, and I'm locking the liqour cabinet.

No one gives a shit about Boom Island any how. It might as well just slough off into the damn river and get washed away down to New Orleans. So I say that we us that spot as our alternate.

Let's just work with the Logan Park folks for now. If they say fuck off, we go just down the road, if they don't bother us again, we stay. Easy as that.

See you sucka's at Logan Park on Sunday, if not sooner.

I stopped by the Holmes court on my way home today. Unless you want to climb over the fence carrying your bike, it's not going to work - they've got the gate padlocked shut while they're redoing it. :P

Where is there to play at Boom Island?

I do see 3 courts on Nicollet Island, but they're right next to the street.
I also see one in St Anthony Park (Spring St. and Washington St) that is far from the street, but might be too close to someone's house. At least I think it's a court, the photo for that area is shitty. I might be able to roll over there to check it out if there's interest...

Anyhow, Logan sounds good to me, but with a secondary location planned out.

I've had a run-in w/ Raymond in the past, & was quick to refer to him in impolite terms. But really, if all it might take is a hello & a "can we use the courts?" i'm all for it. Just this time, war may not be the answer.
Otherwise let's try the Nicollet Island courts. They're going to be demolished to make way for De La Salle's new athletic/rec. field anyhow. I know those Islanders are in a world of their own, (the last time i was up there, a gal was using the courts as an off-leash dog park.)
Or Boom Island might work (do they have courts? or would it be grass?).
Anyhoo, i vote to keep it in N.E. or near N.E.

I just noticed that Mathew's park has tennis courts, too, and it's two blocks from my house...

Who put up the flier at Freewheel?

No Park building should be open on sundays. If the man is an employee there, then if he bugs you next time ask him if he's getting paid.

I feel like if the Loring courts weren't busy on sunday nights you could use them...
if you have questions about park stuff you can ask me- I know lots.....
