I just fished Lake Nokomis on Saturday and I think they should change the name to whatever Latin for "planes constantly fly overhead and you catch nothing but bullheads" is.
It was still fun.

I have caught some big bass in that lake, on the small side that is...
depends on what you are using for bait....
I use spinners. I get northern, bass(rock, small mouth, and large mouth), and small muskies under that bridge...

I knew I should've trekked over to the other side!
It was my first time there, so next time I'll be prepared.
Spinners are my number three favorite bait to use just below buzzbaits and my moss master tournament frogs!

There are more than bullheads in Lake Nokomis:
Unfortunately this is archival, so it doesn't count for the tourney. The fish swam away, so you might catch the same one, which would now be about 40" (caught two summers ago).
I also saw a guy pull a seven pound walleye out just NE of the Cedar Avenue bridge. But you need to get a watercraft to find the game fish on that lake--they're not really by the fishing docs that often.

I usually go either early in the morning for breakfast time or around noon to catch them in the shallows warming up in the sun..

Skunked at Snelling. In another week, it will too weedy to get around in the boat down there. The thing that made the trip worthwhile was I'm pretty sure I saw a cougar down there slinking into the bushes as I rode back up the trail at dusk. At first I thought it was a smallish deer, but I turned my head quick enough to see the long tail disappearing into the bush.
It's not too much of a stretch--they have a photo of one from a few years back in the Minnesota River Valley:
http://www.easterncougarnet.org/minnesota4-27-02.htm
there is a photo of that animal (later shot by Bloomington police) in this MORC thread:

Plenty of deer to eat down there. Hope she stays well fed.

If you're right, I hope they don't go out and kill it again....so no reporting it.
Has anyone actually entered a fish into this tournament, yet?

Check out this fish my brother-in-law caught last night.
Quote: Did a little fishing in Bemidji last night and hooked into the whopper in the attached picture. Caught it on a jig & a minnow. It was 42" long and about 25 pounds. Released it shortly after the picture was taken. Not bad for a day's fishing!

Holy crap, am I the first entry? I rode to Harriet and took a few casts today. This was my first cast of the year and the biggest fish I caught all afternoon.
I'm guessing about 1 lb. small mouth

That's a largemouth. Ain't no smallies in Harriet (or any of the City lakes, I believe-Minnetonka has some, and the Mississippi above the coon rapids dam. They like rivers and cold, deep water). You can tell it's a largemouth because its mouth extends behind its eye.
Congratulations, by the way. The gauntlet has been thrown.

well my hands are about 12 feet in length so I'm guessing that guy is about 16 ft. long. Thanks for the species correction, I never could figure out which was which.

They are a lot easier to tell apart the bigger they get: Smallies are more sunfish-shaped, and a big one fights like a 5 pound bluegill would if such a beast existed. I also will eat smallies, whereas largemouths hardly ever taste very good.
