I'm thinking about taking off the studded tires and place my bet that it's just not gonna happen, this year. Is anyone else ready to write off the winter and put the studs back in storage?

No, because that would cause six weeks of icy, rutted, hellish commutes.

Look, the reason we haven't had a winter is because I haven't been able to bike since December. I'm going to have my new bike built tonight, so winter will hit tomorrow.

Keep the studs on.

If you take those studs off, and we get a city covered in ice... There will be a posse of cyclists that come and hunt your butt down!

I'm tired of rumbling over dry pavement with the studs.

Ditto. I'm wondering if all the dry pavement has worn my studs down to the point of being useless.

I've just accepted the fact that 'll be swapping the studs on and off all season.

The Nokian W106s are a very tight fit on my rims - a pain to get on and off.

Maybe if we make a pact and all agree to take them off at the same time...

Wait What?

You're still running studs!
I'm pretty sure you actually only needed them like three times this year!
So yeah take them off!

For real. I put studs on my Cross Check which is my main ride, and I think I rode it maybe 15 times all winter until I took the studs off last weekend.

See? You merely bring it up, and the forecast for Monday evening is for up to 4 inches of snow.

I took my studded tires off my winter bike a couple of weeks ago and just started riding my good bike last week.
After I got my winter bike a few years ago, I lucked out and got an identical wheelset, same rear freewheel/cassette, for a very good price. So now I have one with Nokian 106 studded tires and one with older Schwalbe Marathons. So swapping them out is no big deal as I don't have to re-adjust anything.
Though last Monday I was regretting riding without studded tires. But it worked out okay with the Marathons. Some slips, but no falls, and just a slow, safe ride home. And no studs the rest of the week. Gotta love this winter if you're a bike rider, especially a commuter.
Bill.

I mentioned on another related thread that it takes me about an hour to change a tire so no.
