Hello everyone!
I'm Carmen, and I'm working with In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre, organizing biking/walking/transit groups for this year's 38th annual May Day Festival in Powderhorn Park. It's the 6th of May, a Sunday. We have a lot of extra planning to do this year, because May Day is going ZERO WASTE!!! In addition, we've added another section to the Festival grounds, called the Off the Grid section, where vendors and organizations are required to use alternative energy sources (solar or pedaling, for instance) to power their food-wagons or activities! Within this section, we're building a mini Transition Town to bring to life the idea of communities working creatively together to be wonderful places to live during and after our country's transition from fossil fuels to other lifestyles.
I'm looking for volunteers for the parade (decorate and ride a bike!) and festival (help us build our Transition Town and fill it with quirky "residents"!), ideas for great interactive activities (we're avoiding the "tabling" thing in our section), and loaner bikes (weird things, bike generators, bike blenders, whatever you've got!). Also, I'd love to build a huge bike puppet for the parade, but I need a large bicycle-like thing to construct it on! Large trailer? Adult trike?
If you get reeeeeally excited about sharing alternative transportation ideas with others, have any ideas, or if you're interested in attending the next brainstorm meeting (Wednesday, March 7 at 5pm), send me a message! Thanks a lot folks!
Carmen
