Please excuse my late reply to this question, as I have not really been too close to the internet the last few months, let alone following things on bikelove. BUt years ago when I was working at a certain Deathstar, I was affforded the luxury of demo-ing the relatively new Pugsley. The first occasion came one X-mas, when I happened to be returning home to Milwaukee- Yeah Guy!!- to the house I grew up in, just a short distance from the shores of Lake Michigan. In the 30+ years my family has lived there I had NEVER ridden a bike along the beach. This particular winter there was a good snowfall and the beach was half snow and ice and half sand and water. You could braaap up on to the snow/ice than drop back down into the sand/water for miles and miles. The whole time I couldnt help but thinking damn I wish those guys (wedniteride/1on1/Surly dudes with whom I learned to ride mountain bikes) were here and could see this. Since then I have actually convinced a number of crew to head down and do the ride, unfortunately it has only since gone down in the summer, but that just makes getting over, and around (in 2+feet of water) the jetties and natural barriers that much more fun.
Since then I have "acquired" a Pug and fit it into my "rotation" on a number of occasions. It is NOT for getting across town fast, it is for getting across town anywhere you want to ride. The Pug has helped me to learn about what Braaaper Dan was talking about when he taught me the word Braaap. You can ride a lot of places on a PUg that you cannot touch with other bikes. I learned to wheelie on the Pug and since then I have purchased his nephew the Rat Ride with 24" Large Marge rims, and love that too!! They are not the best bikes for all conditions, but the best for the random obscure conditions. I could go on and on about this but dont have a week to peck at this keyboard.
My biggest regret about the Pug is that when I went to Australia (where I am currently living) I left it behind in Milwaukee so that upon my return I would have a bike that I live to ride, and so that the dudes at Rainbow Jersey (who got me into cycling to begin with, yes its their fault) could play on it, beat it to shit, fix it back up and do it again, just like I have been for years.
I have owned a lot of bikes in the years and I believe if I could have only 1 bike, it would be the Pug. (and maybe a steam-roller) I really and truly miss my Pugsley, more so than even some of my siblings.

My stupid Pugsley has been getting me to work reliably in all conditions recently, and is quite a fun time in the process.
I just put Larry tires on it front and rear, and it really digs in hard now!
Cheers to Zito downunder!

I'm going out on skinnies (not really - 700x32 Nokians) after I do some shoveling - much prefer them to floating in this kind of stuff. I sill want a Pug just because they are so much fun.

I rode my Pug in to work today, taking mostly surface streets. Tires were at 5psi, and it worked pretty well when I had a rut to follow.

Today, I wish I had a Pug. Well, maybe a Mukluk, just to be different.

Yeah, on Saturday night when I tromped to the liquor store on my snowshoes (the things I do for marriage), I realized that owning a Pug would have been awesome right then. Seriously reconsidering building one. Might be a ton o' fun. Start with a steel frame, and retire it and cannibalize the parts when I'm ready to start building with Ti.

Don't forget Mr. Fontosaurus, you live across the street from a pug owner. Who would let you ride it.

Zebrakeys wrote: Don't forget Mr. Fontosaurus, you live across the street from a pug owner. Who would let you ride it. Oh, I've ridden Pugs before. Did work at Penn, you know. They're damned fun. My biggest issue isn't so much the snow as it is the cold -- I've had hypothermia and frostbite in the past, so I'm extra-susceptible to it now. Thus, I typically ride the trainer from December through March.
