I was really hoping no one saw that.

Extra points for getting in the newspaper!!

I went down on a sheet of ice on the park trail close to our house this morning.
I was going too fast as I came across the bridge and approached a T intersection.
When I tried to turn right, the front studs lost their grip, and I slid out on my side.
I banged my right elbow down hard on the ice and jammed my shoulder.

Watch out for the re-freeze! A block from my house, first stop sign, I hit some ice I didn't see. Nearly ran out of the fall, but the bike hooked my foot sending me down hard on my left knee and hip. Ended up in my daughter's trademark possum-position (on your back with all four limbs curled and in the air).

edit - back at the start of winter, I predicted 3 falls this season. This is fall #3, so I'm all done with falling until next winter!

first spill of the winter today--maiden voyage on the new commuter, unexpected icy patch...i made it past the ice, but when i hit the mud right after, did a slow-mo sideways tippy. i'm sure it was hilarious. i hope someone was watching from afar.

This one was from a couple weeks ago.

7 minutes and 1.5 miles into the first time I got my new disc trucker on the road, I took a corner a little wide and ended up right up against a 1" slushy ice shelf on the road. Tried to turn into it, expecting the side of the tire to bite in and lift me onto the the ice.

my 1.5" studded tires don't have the side bite that my 2.125" tires do. Tipped right over, tucked and rolled, not even a bruise. Did roll through a puddle though.

So, the long ride I'd planned was out, but I wasn't ready to go home yet. Bummed around the block playing with my new bike. Tried to ride over a snow-covered parking log, didn't make it clean, when a woman walking down the sidewalk tsk-tsks at me.

"You're gonna crash that bike again, acting a fool like that."

Made my day.

Yesterday I saw someone on a Moonlander do a false start across from the Walker. May have been avoidable with a Lou in the back, but probably not.
