I saw this on a ride this morning and had to grab a picture:

Dude, where's my bike lane? by Snak Shak, on Flickr

This is 26th Ave. No., just immediately west of 2nd St. No. I saw this same thing yesterday and was able to come back today with my camera. It looks like the employees here just use this bike lane as street parking. True, the signs are a little confusing (nothing says "DON"T PARK IN THE BIKE LANE", but still, this is pretty flagrant).

Maybe we need a little enforcement up north.

Yes, I already did that. Hopefully they will get this cleaned up in short order...

I applaud both your effort and optimism. Curious what sign beneath the Bike Lane sign says.

I looked at that when I rode by - i think that's the problem. The sign prohibits parking from something like midnight to 6:00 AM or something. At any rate, it precludes overnight parking. People see that and think "I can park here" and don't see the bike lane. I suspect that sign was there before the bike lane and nobody thought to take it down.

I mentioned the signage to the 311 person I talked to today. I also told them that repainting the bike lane so that it is VISIBLE would probably help.

When I read this thread I thought you had the same problem as me, yours wins however.

When I was riding on the river road path the other day these two ladies were riding side by side, I said "Excuse me!" the lady in my lane looked at me and just kept going forward which in turn forced me into the road which almost caused me to get nailed by an angry cager.

No bike love even from other bikes. :o

I reported this back in April and was told tt is a "known non-priority".

I.e., "We don't care".

I had someone at 311 tell me that. I got their name and sent that info to anyone in the city who would listen and sent a letter to the editor. Statements like that are major WOTF, insert foot in mouth syndrome move and need to be aired big time.

And this is why I like to take up a lane and go at a leisurely stroll. If you can't give me a lane, I'll take one of yours.

Minneapolis’ proposed re-definition of traffic also changes the status of bike lanes. They no longer would be just green paths but would become official lanes of traffic: Park your car or delivery truck in a bike lane, and it would be just the same as parking in the middle of the street.

This is a tremendous step forward.

I'd love to see this actually enforced- I see so many infractions daily
between home and downtown. Mostly delivery vehicles, short buses,
taxis- those who feel they are "just stopping for a 'second' so it's merited"
when there is often an open parking lane right next to them!

Huh. I thought bike lanes, being lanes on the road, were already a no parking zone. In the past there have been crackdowns where cars were ticketed for parking too far away from the curb and into a bike lane.
Quote:
Traffic is currently defined by a city ordinance as “pedestrians, ridden or herded animals, vehicles and other conveyances either singly or together while using any street or highway for the purposes of travel.”
Were bicycles not previously considered vehicles, or at least "other conveyances?" It seems redundant to add "including bicycles." Or was it previously thought that bicycles were only on the street for recreational purposes and not "for the purposes of travel?"
