So harassing cyclists from a car makes you different how? That was my point.

If I happen to be out in my jersey and shorts for a 70 mile ride and some asshole yells something at me, he's just an asshole prick with no respect, regardless if he rides a bike otherwise.

it wouldn't make me any different, but that matters little to me. in reality, i don't even shout from cars, but i think it'd be a funny comment to make none the less. if more cyclists weren't into taking themselves so seriously, i'd think a lot more people would be laughing at the comment. not to my surprise though, people would rather get agro over some meaningless drivel a perfect stranger shouted at them from a passing vehicle.

furthermore, people are yelling shit at each other all the time, and in my experience for every indignant motorist out there shouting down bikers, there is an equally indignant biker doing the exact same. for support, i'm gonna go ahead and point out the fact that there is a current thread in this very forum compiling insults to be slung at motorists, and that begs the question: by shouting them, how does that make us any different? the answer is that it doesn't, and just because a motorist started it, (just like in grade school) retaliating doesn't make it right.

How many folks in cars are killed by being hit by a bicyclist?

The only time I yell at cars is when they've put me in physical danger.

Maybe that's just taking myself too seriously, though.

Yell if you want, or not, all it does is present another car user as a threat, even if it is just a drop in the bucket.

many, which i won't dispute, but how is that even relevant to this discussion? as far as i can tell, we're talking about immature insults, which get made by both sides. in regard to you taking yourself too seriously, (a comment which i didn't level at you directly) look how worked up you've gotten over a joke i made, enough to categorize me as a prick asshole even. you might as well be shouting that out the window of an SUV as you drive by.

I'm really not worked up, I'm just trying to make you see that some jokes aren't funny.

Apparently I've failed.

And what do mean folks in cars are killed by being struck by a cyclist? I wonder if you misread that one.

don't worry, i'm not worked up, and i really don't mean any harm either. i understood what you meant about cyclists getting killed by cars, and agree, there are plenty. i just disagreed that it had any bearing on the discussion. anyways, i guess we disagree, i think its totally fun to make fun of bikers. its self depricating to some degree i guess, but if you can't laugh at yourself wtf then?

No no no, it's a thread for suggestions for insults that people can use as alternatives to insults that offhandedly insult an unassociated group of people. Really, it's a plea for people to be nicer.

By the Caribucks Bros (whatever the coffee shop there is) at 4th and 15th today, I was doing a slightly wobbly (albeit stable) weak side trackstand waiting for the light to change and a meatheaded fratboy started shouting for his friend at an ear-shattering register. Right about this time, I pulled out of the stand and took my green light. As I was pulling away, I heard him say "Awwww sh*t, dude, you missed it. That guy was about to eat shit!"

I wasn't sure if that meant A) he thought I was going to fall down, or B) he was going to push me over and run off giggling in a fit of glee.

Either way, I hate those goddamned meathead frat boys.

another weird thing i notice about 15th and 4th intersection:

as you head up the hill in front of mcdonalds on 15th heading towards campus, does anyone notice how so many bikers go super slow up that hill? I feel like i have to pass like 15 bikers every morning in that one stretch...and i dont even bike that fast in the morning

Damn! I was gone these last two weeks and I forgot how bad it is. Some runner practically ran me into a tree because he cut and ran right in front of the bike path by the Social Science building.

and how bout that broken glass all over dinkytown/marcy holmes....i feel like im riding thru a mine field everytime i ride to work...can't drunk 18 year olds hold onto bottles anymore?

Students? Bah. How about those bright and wonderful folks from Parking and Transportation Services.

They closed the only legal east-to-west bicycle route on the East Bank campus so they could add parking. I now have to leave campus if I want to go from Akerman hall to the West Bank. Legally, that is. I am now a scofflaw.
