OK, lots of time I just want to write a quick comment and its not really new thread worthy. So, here is where I'm going to be dumping random thoughts occasionally. Others are welcome to do the same.
1- Have people noticed the double black cables that have been strung across the roads recently?
There's three sets of them within a four block radius @ Como+15th Ave.
I assume they're for getting traffic statistics and such, but I'm curious to know just what they do/what they monitor.
2- North Country has caramel apples now. I can't wait until they have hot cider back too. Fall owns.

I always assume those cables somehow count traffic. But I usually assume that they miss all the traffic like me that is on a bike. Anyone know fer sure?
ps Fall is pretty damn cool. i myself am a big fan of the winter squashes

I wonder if they record speed as well since they're always the same distance apart.

I thought they were to gauge traffic so as to correctly time traffic lights. Aren't they usually like 10 - 15 feet back from a stop light?

Those cables have been round town lots..I bike downtown a lot so I kept running them over and assumed they were for counting traffic. I think they count me..but who knows.

They measure speed as well as count the amount of vehicles. I'm not sure if they can differenciate bikes from cars either (which I guess doesn't matter since we are legally considered vehicles).
I noticed that I see a lot more people I know when I actually go to class. I should go to class more.
Campus Courier doesn't have bicycle courier services.

I met a traffic planner on the light rail a long time ago.
The black cables can measure amount of vehicles, their weight, and type of vehicle (by timing the distance between axles). I think they can measure bike traffic too but maybe not - they're probably engineered to not detect kids jumping up and down on them.

and on the bike trails (like the greenway especially) there are trapazoid lines in the pavement (with one line that goes into a box/manhole cover thingy) that count bikes. if you have a few extra minutes and don't mind looking foolish you should ride back and forth over them so the city thinks there are more bikes and will give more funding!!

1) Phil's back?

Yay Phil! I think I'll go see him today! I haven't seen him yet!
and hey... I have several men's scarves.. and even more ladies scarves for sale. Come buy one and ride with it and look good.
I did manage to keep a few scarves for me for my move. I'll still need them right?

1) Do you have plaid scarves?
2) Have you still not figured out what choppers are?

chopper mitts are leather (usually deer leather) mittens that you wear with different weights of knit wool inner liner mittens. They're pretty warm, handle moisture reasonably well, and are best known for being extremely durable. They're good for show shoveling or splitting wood (where the name comes from).
