What are good over-the-hill gifts?

This has to be somewhat work-appropriate so:
a walker? Funny! (hard to find cheap)
a package of Depends? Not a great idea (though funny!)

A subscription to readers digest and a bag of strange candies in gold and silver foil wrappers. That was my grandmother.

Well, we also brought her a bunch of sausage and two cases of grain belt once a month. Old Danish grandmothers like foil wrapper candy and beer. And sausage.

Is this for a male or female recipient?

Reading glasses on a fancy chain?
A cane?
A cone (for use as a hearing aid) that says "Speak up, sonny!" on it?
A TV tray (for watching Wheel of Fortune while eating)
