this evening (maybe 6:30 or 6:45?) I was biking on the Greenway headed west, and as I came under the 35W overpass I saw a large individual appear from under the Nicollet exit ramp. He stepped into the trail and blocked the path there where it's so narrow, with his legs spread wide, and then didn't move. As a smaller and not-so-fast female, and since no other cyclists or pedestrians were nearby, I decided I did not want to come any closer to that situation, so I u-turned and chose a different route.
close to the 5th ave. crossing, I saw another cyclist and warned him about what I saw. anybody else seen weird activity in that area? I don't like that little hidey-hole under the trail exit ramp, but I'm also a little jumpy sometimes. maybe I overreacted. someone told me I should have called the cops. advice?

If it feels wrong, call the cops. Seriously. Trust your intuition on this stuff and do a u-turn and then call the cops.

Sounds like you did everything right in that situation.
Unless you didn't bother to call the police once you got to safety.

never a bad idea to carry mace, but only if its highly accessible at split seconds notice. get some sticky velcro and wrap it around the can, and velcro it to your back pack or messenger bag strap.

wow, holy thread jacks. But I've never seen that, but often worried about it since it is really blind as you come from the west, better lighting certainly wouldn't hurt over there.

As someone who was attacked at this location several years ago, some of your comments were quite distasteful to me, but so be it.
The lighting as I recall is improved and no one camps under that bridge anymore. For the record, I was attacked by a male while heading east at 7 am on a sunday morning. I gave him a vicious left with my elbow, somehow remained upright and booked outta there.
Please be safe out there!
