Pak Zam Zam

Slowly making my way down central trying the many many different eating establishments... very good! Although I wish I would have gotten something that I wouldn't normally get at a similar restaurant.

Dusty's on Marshall. If you're a beer snob, you'll probably stick with the cocktails, and if you're a vegetarian the food choices won't be very good. I got them to make me a grilled cheese once, after having to prompt them with the questions "do you have bread?" and "do you have cheese?"

New:
Heidi's, née Pane Vino Dolce. And no, this is not where the puzzle lock is. But my friend Kyle works here, and you should go dine here. It is a very nice place to eat.

Old
I haven't eaten there yet, but my wife liked it. ...I wonder what the customers inside thought when a guy pulls up on a freak bike, takes a pic (with flash), then rides off.

New
A Nokomis favorite. Great breakfasts, and good lunch sandwiches and burgers. Small neighborhood place. Now open nights... except not tonight. I haven't tried anything on the new dinner menu.

Old: Anodyne Coffee - one my fav. coffee shops, I even have one of their T-shirts of Einstein riding a bike holding a cup of coffee. Very neighborhood, and relatively inexpensive. I think they even have an Open Mic. Go there for caffeine and then dig through the racks at Roadrunner records across the street.

New (hope this isn't a repeat):

Holy crap it's been way too long since I've been there - do they still have those éclairs?

If someone beats me to this tag, you MUST get an éclair.

oops, sorry, i was so worried bjorn was gonna start posting all of the tags seconds before I did that I hastily threw this up.

ok, butter, I've only ever been there once. coffee was good, but what stands out to me was the pastry i had. I think it was a cranberry/orange muffin, one of my faves, but this thing was fresh, and huge. i split it with a friend and we both didn't finish it.

Sample Room

I've eaten there on many occasion--my ex-wife worked there for almost 2 years starting the day they opened. My favorite is the roasted vegetables with goat cheese, walnuts, and balsamic reduction on wilted spinach. Also, the macaroni and cheese is pretty effing good.

The building was actually the sample room for Gluek's Brewery tours back in the day. Before becoming the Sample Room, it was the Polish Palace. Total dive, totally awesome.

Old: Al's Breakfast in Dinkytown

I think I've been to Al's twice. The last time was before the smoking ban. I'm not sure I need to go back. However, in 2001 or so, a friend who knows about such things reported that a Gopher tart was in Playboy, and she posed on Al's counter. At some level, I approve.

Bonus if you get there in the next few days.
