Ha, I was just on the wrong side. A friend of mine from Japanese class in college opened up this place. She actually grew up speaking Japanese, but she pretended to be learning it so she could get an easy 6-credit A.

I ate here on the grand opening and orded some sort of green tea drink where you push down on the top to open it. I didn't understand the servers pantomimed instructions, so I slammed the top, sending green tea flying.

New Place:

Bump. Maybe a certain employee of a certain close-by establishment can take a certain picture and post it in a certain thread. You could do it on a smoke break.

What to say about the CC?

Some night in 2006 (Maybe the day before Thanksgiving or the day before New Years Eve when their sewage flowed up the floor drains and was the nastiest foulest smelling bathroom ever. I didn't go back for 4 months or longer. :yuck:

Victor's 1959 Cafe

I think I've only been to Victor's once, a few years ago before a show at the Triple Rock. Grand Bakery always seems to be a bigger draw on Sunday mornings for me. I do recall that Victor's has good fried plantains and yummy pork. Mmmm cloven hooves. It also has an interesting roof.

sea salt eatery (minnehaha falls)
I love this place, and it will certainly be a sign of warmer weather when it opens. Not particularly cheap but a surprisingly good beer selection, peace coffee, etc.. The fish sandwiches are mighty tasty and makes a perfect bike stop along the pkwy or down minnehaha ave. from the greenway in the bike lane.

Buster"s on 28th

What needs to be said about Buster's? Huge yummy burgers, and the first place I encountered Surly Furious. A frequent haunt for me because the roll home is straight and short.

New

Sorry about the shitty pics, but this was spur of the moment. I heard that the new place was closing, and wanted to see for myself.

Old: Firefly Cafe at 5155 Bloomington Ave S, Mpls, in the distant lands of S Mpls

Uh oh, when I visited today, it looked like it was closed for good! The little archway was gone and it was locked up at 6:15pm (the sign said it was supposed to be open till 8pm). It looked all messy inside like it was out of business, too. I also walked over two doors down to the Snyders, but they were closed, too. Very sad.

That would explain why they didn't order coffee yesterday.
Sad, that makes four of my local independents closed this year; Cliquot, Betsy's, Vera's and now Firefly. :(

Black Bamboo

Went here for happy hour with a bunch of work people once. Specials were great, and the specialty martinis were also very good, but they only had two servers working the entire place, and there weren't at all prepared for the likes of us.
