so i'm living in quito ecuador right now, but i like to keep up with what is going on in msp for when i come back, and the alley-cat scene here is AWESOME.
some fun ideas from races i've done here: 1. all races i've done have been in teams of 3 (except for an all girls race i organized which was teams of 2) its a totally different experience when you do it in a team. 2. naked picture in traffic. 3. picture with a policeman. (technically illegal in ecuador which made it interesting) 4. go to a karaoke bar and sign a particular song. 5. one team member has to do zig-zag with a bike polo ball and get a goal before you can leave the stop. 6. pedal a bike taxi in the smallest circle possible 5 times which carrying your other team mates (my teammate almost threw us out of the cab and then almost threw up) 7. i did one where at 5 different stops you had to eat a banana, rice, stale bread, chug a liter of water, and then this drink here called avena. and let me tell you- quito has HILLS and i threw up twice. 8. there was one where there were 2 manifests, and after you completed the first one you had to climb up a rock wall to the top to get the second manifest.
some fun ideas from alley-cats in quito. And i WILL bring bike street drag racing to minneapolis when i get back in august.

Pedalpub alleycat. About the best idea I've had in years, and refined on the last night riders at Pizza Luce. I mean, come on. There ARE two pedal pubs. Let's race!

My understanding is (I've never been out on the PedalPub) that they don't just let you go anywhere you want and they provide the driver. It's also kinda pricey considering the cost of participating in your standard alleycat.
Checking their website tells me: $190/hr for 2-3 hrs on a Friday or Saturday There are standard pubcrawl routes Custom routes - $100, plus $3/mile round trip from PedalPub garage to starting point On the flat, the PedalPub travels at a maximum speed of approximately five miles per hour

Truth. But a man can dream, can't he? I'm sure we could get the gear ratio on those puppies set up to cruise.

love the smith ave to ramsey hill idea. I would love to do a race with no stops but just a sort of quick and brutal route...
Or merge the brakeless fixie idea with the summit death race! Maybe move it over to the grand hill so that nobody dies... just imagining everyone trying to skid down the summit hill and hearing all these tires blowing out at once...
so here's some random ideas: get the squeak out of some mafac brakes. and the rims have to be the annoying ones with the weird design on the breaking surface that makes it a bitch. I could work that stop cause I could put the squeak right back in them.
have some hubs taken apart and make people put them back together in the right order. loose bearings plz.
have a bunch of chainring bolts painted a certain color. at the stop you have to put one of them on your bike and at another stop you have to take it off and give it back.
apple bobbing is also fun!
