Hey y'all, it's that time of year again.

addendum: Cranksgiving is HERE.

Saturday, November 19th

Meet at Gold Medal Park @ 1pm. Manifest envelopes will be distributed, routing may commence. You are also encouraged to exchange fair tidings and well wishes. High-fives: optional.

Roll out will be around 130pm, to allow for a) route-planning, b) late-comer kitten-herding (you know who you are!). I will hang around a ~bit~ longer to ensure maximum giveitude and rider satisfaction, but please know that if I'm the only person you see at GMP, you have already lost your chance at a cheaply made trophy with a biker on the top. Real talk.

DRESS WARMLY. SNOW IS A THING. Bring LOCKS, BAGS/TRAILERS, CASH (or some other fungible commodity accepted by merchants).

Stops will be grocery stores (mostly co-ops, we love co-ops) around the city, where you will purchase (because you are awesome!) stuff to help Sisters Camelot stock their frankly-quite-dope Kitchen Bus, in its quest to provide free meals around the Twin Cities. In addition, there will be a pit-stop at a beloved Seward-zone coffeeshop (guess), as well as a stop at Free Bikes 4 Kidz. Why? Because what they do is great, Cranksgiver! Free bikes! For kids! That is a basic math situation.

Afterwards, there will be a fire at Sisters Camelot (pending the press gang of a few Eagle Scouts), sweet trophies (engraved and everything), Stuff We All Get (thanks to our sponsors. thanks!), and, if you are old enough, adult beverages, responsibly enjoyed.

gobble gobble,

Evan & Ben

nb Ben is currently in Kenya, curing something (tuberculosis??), but rest assured that he is 100% here in spirit (read: Skype), and pumped to see everyone out tomorrow. I know this because he emails me exactly one hundred million times a day. And each one says "let th ppl in mpls kno tht im totes psykd bout cg, d00d"*

*that is not actually what he emails

More Info
Race Details:

What to bring:

-Bike (of course)
-Bag (or trailer if you're feeling really generous!)
-Lock
-some $$ (registration is free, but you'll be buying goods at local grocery stores & Co-Ops)

Cranksgiving is an annual charity ride/race to support local food shelters that host Thanksgiving meals!

Gather at 1:00 PM at Gold Medal Park. Event Organizers will hand out manifests & envelopes that identified the stops of ride (selected grocery stores & markets around MPLS). You can team up or ride solo and choose your route, any route.

Your goal is to ride to each site and buy food items from the 'Cranksgiving Shopping List' which identifies different thanksgiving foods that the sponsoring shelter has suggested.... It is up to you how much food you pick up; some people stay lightweight and pick up the beans, gravy mix, noodles, etc; other will go for gold and buy Turkeys and sack of potatoes!! Last year, riders spent between $10 and $150 on shopping list items.

Come one, come all! This event is both bikejerk/crustpunk- and family-friendly.

**bring bike trailers if you are feeling extra generous this year**

AWARDS: "Most Generous" "Biggest Haul", 1st, 2nd, 3rd Women/Men.

SWAG: From our growing list of sponors (Peace Coffee, Angry Catfish, to name a few)!!!!

All donated food will go to Sisters Camelot for their Thanksgiving meal.

~After Party~
This year we will be having an after party to celebrate the event during which time awards will be given out. Location with TBA, stay tuned!

Biggest Haul, two years running (and still not DFL). I'll be pulling a trailer this year. BRING IT!

Is this something I could do with a 10-year-old? It is hard to tell from the posted info if this is something I could do with my daughter. My main objective is just to make sure she has fun. She can go about 15 miles but I am not looking to push her limits. We have other ways to give, I am just wondering if this is a good excuse to go for a bike ride with her before the weather turns nasty.

Thanks!

I think so. Most of the stops are in bike-friendly areas and you can pick and choose which ones you go to based on comfort level and distance. The object is to collect food for those less fortunate so you can't exactly "lose" the "race". Last year a bunch of people rode in a pack. It's a fun time and some of the stops have treats. I say go for it.

A friend of mine can't attend, but would like to donate. Am I right in thinking she should donate store-bought, packaged food? As opposed to home made food.

We aren't officially participating in Cranksgiving yet, but us folks at the Donut Coop on East 25th and 30th ave are offering a quarter off of your first $1.00 donut if you stop by during the ride. Stop by and fuel up after your other stops in Seward. The catch is we're only open until 2:30, which means those who want donuts will have to make it in early.

Hope to see your faces and bikes.

Hey everyone, apologies for the radio silence!

Thought I'd address some questions/concerns/corrections/etc., last minute though it may be:

(working backwards)

- I love donuts. Also, ~shhhh~, one of the stops is the Birchwood, just down the street from the Donut Coop, so I see absolutely no reason why a Cranksgiver couldn't double-dip and get a delicious donut while in they're in the area, right? I mean: fried toroids!!! You are basically eating a delicious thing and educating yourself on the finer points of topological theory at the same time.

- Sisters Camelot would love donations, and yes, non-homemade non-perishable food would be preferred. Double-preferred would be organic/green stuff, as part of their mission (http://sisterscamelot.org/about/project ... e-kitchen/) is to provide those they serve with "lovingly-made, nourishing organic meals" from their radical Kitchen Bus (it is, for real, pretty awesome).

- This is totally something you can do with a ten year-old! Going to all the stops might be a stretch, but Cranksgiving is only nominally a "race." Yeah, there are some prizes (and a few "mom, dad, we won sectionals!"-worthy trophies), but this is mostly about riding your bike, getting food, and bringing it to some great people that have an actual ~Kitchen Bus~ that serves free meals throughout the Twin Cities 2-3 days a week. If you don't want to go to all the stops, you don't have to! All that I ask is that you don't beat me to the finish line. Theo did that last year, going to all the stops, and I was...embarrassed. Dude is fast. Too fast, in my opinion, which is why I'm going to his house tonight to slash his tires (<--- true!).

- Alas, there will be no "official" CG after-party. I know, I know, bad race-organizer, bad! That being said, we will likely have a fire at the end, and maybe a case of beer or two (nota bene, not for ten year-olds...the beer I mean, not the fire). There will be cool stuff given by our generous sponsors, though, so there's that going for you, which is nice.

Hey There!!! Cranksgiving is definitely family friendly and fun!! We want this event to be as inclusive as possible, we had families in the past and they've all really enjoyed it!! Along with the food stops, there are coffee/snack stops and also one surprise stop this year, so there are diversions. Plus, you can always create your own route and chose what works best for you and your crew (i.e. you don't have to go to all the stops if you don't want to if you want to make the distance more manageable for everyone). -Ben, CG co-organizer

Thanks so much to everyone that braved the elements (again)!

I haven't finished all the calculations, but so far we've got about $1200 of supplies for the Sisters Camelot Kitchen Bus (with an additional $150 coming from the East Side Co-op). That's pretty boss, guys, and it couldn't have happened without you all.

I'll get some results up here soon, but it's cold, and I'm hungry, and the night is young.

You guys are the best,

Evan & Ben
