This morning, I kept thinking how nice it would have been if it hadn't been for the wind. Then, I'd start thinking about staying upright instead.
I wore:
Head - thin balaclava, headband, helmet, snowboarding goggles.
Torso - t-shirt (cotton, says Soul Coughing), Sugoi Midzero jersey,Marmot Gore-Tex shell/raincoat
Hands - liner gloves, Pearl Izumi knit gloves
Legs - heavy jeans
Ankles & Feet - Ultimax socks, tennis shoes, old wool sock tops converted to gaiters
The best part of all of this is that the only items I bought new/full price are the socks and shoes. Thrifty Outfitters rocks.
For the ride home, I'm adding the long johns that I had in my bag this morning, and taking off the headband.

I like the wind. Then again, I am rocking gears, so it isn't as bad for me. Snow is deffinately better than rain when it isn't five-inches thick.
Feet: The same socks/shoes I've been wearing since last spring.
Legs: Cotton pajamas under jeans.
Torso: T-Shirt under a thin sweater under my parka-esque jacket. It just goes down to my waist, but it looks like a parka. Parkacket? Packet? I can't come up with anything clever.
Hands: Work gloves that make me look an axe-murderer.
Head: Sweater hood with a scarf wrapped around my lower face and the ol' brain bucket.
I'd say the worse part about the ride has been locking up. My gloves are to bulky to manage my keys and the cable is always so fucking cold.

For puttering around uptown and then stopping at CRC for a massive chocolate chip cookie and mocha:
Black Tights
Jeans
White Tank Top
Short Sleeved Turtleneck
Cardigan
Medium Winter Coat
Leather Gloves
My new favorite friend: Cheap earmuff headband under the helmet
Knitted Scarf*
Christmas Present Target Brown Boots with synthetic liner. Nice and warm, but the pointy toes make me pedal with only the balls of my feet. Nice muscle exercise though.
*At times the scarf was too much. If I were trekking a bit longer than 10 blocks at a time, I may go without it.

Feet: My Merrill Sprint Rockers that I always wear with some black wool socks that I got in the military.
Legs: PI sweats with cycling shorts underneath.
Torso: Long sleeve T-shirt, Sweatshirt, North Face Denali Fleece (orange for visibility)
Head: 180's ear muffs, airius skull cap, masque, serfas cycling glasses, giro atmos helmet.
Hands: Some gloves I got at REI. They were cheap and they are warm.
Zero problems at all today. Not too hot, not too cold. I will fall back on this ensemble often.

I've always wanted to make a little Flash animation with
a slider dial on the bottom, and you just drag the dial
from -30 degrees to 100 degrees. As it moves, there's
a little photo of you and all the clothes you're wearing.
Maybe we could do a big poster, too. Quick reference.
At -30 I look like a Storm Trooper. At 100 degrees I'm
buck nekkid.

I'm sure you wait until it's 100...
Actually, it's not a bad idea, but judging by the responses here, you'd have to be able to put a reference point for it to be useful to everyone. Actually, 2-3 points would be good. Something where you pick the outfit, then drag the slider for the temp to when you wear that amount of clothes. Because some people wear at 30 what others wear at 50... You could also through a slider in for wind and precip, too!
Anyway, back on topic:
Adidas clippy shoes
Short socks under long socks (cheap work tube socks)
Carharts
Normal underwear (Target has these sweet ones that are like bike shorts, but no pad)
Long john top
T-shirt
Burley Rock-Point jacket
661 mid-weather gloves with a nice windbreaking cuff
Fleece hat
BMX helmet
I also had extra layers (fleece and long john bottoms) in my bag, which helped insulate a bit.
Sad to say, but I was overheating a bit...

I'm late, but anyways...
Yesterday I wore:
normal socks
bike shorts
legwarmers
armwarmers
t-shirt
long-sleeve cotton shirt
dorky hat with earflaps and tassels
leather gloves
I had the chopper mitts bungeed to the front rack in case my fingered leather gloves turned out to be inadequate, but I didn't have to resort to the choppers. I have $250 worth of gift certificates I can redeem for REI. I think it's time to get some nice insulated bib tights, shoe covers (windbreaker material to stop both wind and rain), helmet-compatable balaclava, and some kind of form-fitting insulated long sleeve shirt.
I also need to experiment with ways to keep my cleats (SPD style) from acting like heatsinks and making the bottom of my feet super cold. I think just creating some kind of insulation to go between the sole and the insole should do the trick.

On Thursday I wore:
Feet: Normal shoes, normal socks
Legs: Carhartt pants
Torso: Hooded sweatshirt, t-shirt
Hands: Cheap gloves from target that are falling apart
Head: A lot of hair
On Thusday night I went shopping, on Friday and today I wore:
Feet: Normal shoes, normal socks
Legs: Same Carhartt pants
Torso: Same hooded sweatshirt, different t-shirt
Hands: New pair of wool gloves (chops)
Head: Mad Bomber hat (very warm), lot's of hair
This was just fine for me but I'm also very used to the cold. My commute is rather short so I'm sure I'd need more if I were doing a longer trip like I used.

Each has its merits. However, I would need to know the color of the silk scarf and its sequins before I could issue a definitive recommendation.

With the blue beanie, I've just got to recommend the silk scarf. Although the bandana is always a dashing choice, albeit perhaps rolled?
