I just had a very pleasant time at the Erik's in Dinkytown. The mechanics were friendly, knowledgeable (well, more knowledgeable than me, although, granted, that doesn't take much), and got me out the door with my brake problem fixed in no time. They also cleaned & lubed up my chain, too, which was nice since I had limestone dust all over it.

I think that's a service that only the Eagan store offers, unfortunately.

I'm sure you frightened them, at first glance looking like a peaceful Pastfarian, then letting them see the Noodly Appendage you had wrapped around your rear rack.

Disgusting. Is nothing truly sacred in these times?

This is one of my faveorite shops. All the guys are super friendly and put up with my lack of knowledge. They don't have the hip bike shop kid mentality.

Stopped by Eriks today to get some new brake pads so I don't squeal so god damn much. I was talking to JJ for a bit about the tour that poorimpulsecontrol and I are planning this summer and how the bike that I would like to use was not made for that purpose at all. He advises me against the racks that they have and points me in the direction of http://www.oldmanmountain.com/ That has a rack that would work perfectly for me. The shop is pretty good but JJ is the shit

I saw a sign outside the Dinkytown store that said 50% off bike repairs with a student ID. I thought that was pretty frickin' awesome!

That's 50% off labor. Still good. Also applies to U staff. Erik's mechanics have, I think, better training than other shop's.

I'm fine with Erik's, I just don't like the one in dinkytown. They moved in right next door to Varsity bike shop, who in my experience has been much more helpful than Erik's, and has been there longer.
