Long story short. Biking, may have been too drunk, blew tire, tube got caught in chain, now my rear cog is in there loose. Can trade auto repair for hub repair. HELP!!

Im no alfine expert, but I know that the nexus level hubs use a snap ring to hold the rear cog in place. wouldnt be surprised if the same were true of the alfine. if so, maybe the tube wrap created just enough outward pressure to snap off the snap ring, thus allowing the rear cog to come loose. Chek this at your LBS, and it might just be a snap ring away from working.

Doesn't Shimano still have exploded parts diagrams for their products?

Here is the exploded parts diagram. I think ebbmart might be correct, but I have never tried to get into one of these units.

Josh from the hub managed to do some magic on it and yes it was just the slip ring.

Boom. Glad it was such a simple fix.
