My dad has a tandem from the early 80s. It was custom-built, and served well for some time, but about eight years ago, it started feeling really unstable, and his local bike shop didn't know what to tell him.

Does anyone know of any shops/mechanics in the metro that specialize in tandems? Your recommendations would be very helpful.

Have you had any luck? I know The Alt has some experience with custom tandems and might be willing to help.

That's right. The owner is a framebuilder, or was, who has built plenty. In fact there's one of his hanging up right there.

Not to constantly plug Freewheel, but we literally work on anything.

+1 on the Bikesmith recommendation. (coming from a Freewheel wrench)

Mark is possibly the smartest bike person I know. He has decades of experience with tandems, bents, trikes, Sturmey Archer, framebuilding, and general bike mastery. If there's any kind of unusual gotcha to be noticed, he'll see it and explain what's going on.
