Does anyone have a favorite route to get between South Minneapolis and Downtown St. Paul?
I need to get from Powderhorn to my job at the state capitol area and was wondering if anyone had a suggestion besides E 35th St / Marshall Ave / Summit Ave.

Well look who's back on bikelove!
I can't see an easy way around Marshall being the majority of your trip. That is, unless you're willing to go out of your way to cross on Ford Bridge, eventually hook up with Randolph and/or Shepard, then go through downtown.
For a direct route (based off speculation and Google Maps) that kinda-tries-to-avoid the three streets you mentioned, I'd take Greenway, Bracket, Doorman, Lake, Marshall, Lexington, Central, then whatever.
If this were my commute, and time wasn't a big consideration, I'd honestly take 40th to Hwy 55; through the North tip of Minnehaha Park; cross Ford bridge; and either take a right continuing on Shepard, taking a left to Randolph, or making my way to Montreal, depending on my time budget; end up on the beautiful Shepard Rd bike path; left on Sibley; left on 7th; right on Jackson; boom, Capital.

I used to commute from Uptown to downtown St. Paul before I moved to St. Paul. Here is my old route. Going east. Short cut through History Center parking lot for going West. I suppose that's all Marshall to Summit....there aren't many other options without going out of your way quite a bit. Try this: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5906299

I know St. Paul wants to turn Charles into a bike boulevard, but I'd stay on Marshall and cut down to Summit, as Euterpe suggests. Right now, Charles is just a residential street.

I love going across the 55 bridge and down through Lilydale. It'd be out of your way but the ride is beautiful
