marshall/lake bridge is definitely a mess. i had taken the road EB thinking i could get through on my fargo. 200 feet of mashed potatoes later hopped the guardrail onto the walkway.

the length of grand ave is hit or miss. mashed potatoes, ice, asphalt depending. you can link it all up pretty well with some perserverance and willingness to hope on to the sidewalk. sounds like summit is the ticket though.

I didn't ride Summit today, so I don't know if what I encountered on Monday is still relevant or not. Given the conditions I saw today around other parts of St Paul, I'm bracing myself for anything tomorrow morning. It's amazing how another day of traffic can turn a clear route nasty. But I imagine (hope?) it's still one of the best options compared to the alternatives.

YUK, this is a hard ride right now.

Park Avenue bike lanes are completely covered in ice, but you can probably get by in the travel lane. Portland Ave south of Minnehaha Pkwy is pretty good -- probably can't ride in the bike lanes, but most of the surface is ice-free.

Chicago Ave south of Lake St is very rough and icy.

Yeah...thinking of taking Kennedy/Arthur to the MDT-to-nowhere on my way home since that section of the MDT is plowed by the truck like it is along NBB to Walnut. And Kennedy/Arthur seem to get cleared pretty well with all the office traffic.

Looks like the truck with plow went down the length of the LRTrail this morning.

In some areas it made it a little worse as it exposed the icy footprints from the first hours of snowfall.

Everyone get out and ride the trails this afternoon and break up the ice. :]

This glorified sidewalk has been almost unrideable for days.
If I left my sidewalk like this I would deserve a ticket.
Does anybody know who is responsible for clearing this section of the MDT?

This was the response to an email that I sent to Shaun Murphy in 2010 about the Stinson section not being plowed well:

Quote:
I rode this section last week and noticed it was pretty treacherous. I didn't know it was worse than the other sections - this was the only piece I observed, and I'm not sure why this section would be different. The Diagonal Trail is maintained by the Minneapolis Park Board. Their # to report maintenance concerns is 230-6400.

I called the number back when I received this email and the plows came through that afternoon. Not sure if it's still the same deal two years later though. I'm going to put in a 311 report today on it.

Edit: If I find some time today/tomorrow, I really want to find out why they plow the "unused" section of the MDT so well (8ft wide, down to the pavement) but neglect the higher traffic Stinson segment completely.

Lots of icy spots. I ride it last night with a couple of folks who didn't have studded tires and they didn't fall down...

Top of the Bryant Ave Greenway Ramp is partially blocked by snow mounds.

Greenway Bryant to Dean Parkway is icy in patches but Good for the most part.

Dean Parkway to Kenilworth is ice covered and rutted in patches, I'd call it Fair overall (I'm running studs).

Kenilworth is snow and ice covered and sometimes rutted to Cedar Lake Parkway trail, overall Fair

Cedar Lake Parkway Trail and Wirth Parkway trails are icy in many places and rutted in a few, but fair on studs.

Luce Line is unplowed, but apparently some brave souls have been traversing it on bikes judging from the tracks. I bypassed it.

MDT along Stinson got plowed yesterday. Still isn't great, but it's a ton better

access from lake st. to bryant ramp was kind of crap like it usually is. Cedar Lake Trail was great until I encountered this:

That's the STS van with all the doors open blocking the trail just after the shitiest intersection on the cedar lake trail. I told them having all the doors open meant I had to walk in the snow to get around the van. No one responded or seemed to move. Picture was taken shortly after I passed them.

Those are probably folks whose interest is in riding singletrack. In the few winters I've been riding the single track back there I've never seen the luce line plowed.

Greenway from 5th Ave to Lakes is not good. Yesterday's rain and today's cold temps have made it slow going. Path alternates from dry pavement to sheet ice to rutted ice. I made it through with studded tires, but still had to be extra careful in spots.
