Like with Zito's crash, I wish I could get a listing of all the cars matching the description of the vehicle and sort through it myself with some other motivated citizens. The problem 4 months down the road is that the car has likely been fixed. I'm not interested in exacting my own justice, but I'd sure have been willing to spend a weekend sifting through "hundreds" of vehicles and taking a look at the promising ones to see if the cops should be interested. I think a group of 20 people could have gotten together and worked the list of all possible cars in a 20 mile radius within a week of the crash. I think the chance of finding the perp is getting fairly remote unless, for example, his wife finds out he's been cheating on her and she turns him in.

in the Netherlands, of course, the driver of a motor vehicle that hits a person is considered at fault unless they can produce evidence that says otherwise. In London, they require commercial trucks to have signs posted in the cabs reminding drivers of their duty to avoid hitting people on bicycles and the trucks are required to have safety equipment that's designed to prevent a person from falling under the truck if they are hit.

In Portland, OR the had people who ride bikes get in a cab of a truck to learn how to stay out of truckers' blind spots. In Minneapolis Saint Paul, drivers of motor vehicles are not prosecuted when they hit and kill people riding bicycles.
